Anyone who knew Sean knows he was wise beyond his years. He shared his wisdom with us through his music and his spoken word. I didn’t really get the chance to get to know Sean before his father died. All of us kids got ripped apart from each other as brothers’, sisters’, and cousins’ alike… The last time I saw Sean before his dad died was at my grandmother’s funeral. Funerals became the only time our family saw each other. Holidays went away or they were so depressing that we just did not want to remember them. It had been so long since I had seen Sean that when I first heard his dad was sick I called him in the nursing home asking who was taking care of his son. I wanted to take custody of Sean. I refused to let what happened to me happen to him; however, it turned out Sean was not that little boy anymore, and I was too late… In my mind Sean was still that scrawny little kid with the bowl haircut, his sadness and my fear frozen in time.
