Back in the winter of 94 on the Southside of Chicago it was cold and times were tough. At the time my husband was a seasonal worker cutting trees around power lines during the summer and we lived off of unemployment during the winter and I remember thinking there was no way we were gonna have a Christmas that year. One particularly hard week I gathered up all the change and dollar bills I could find to go grocery shopping, I was just a little shy of $30 and whatever I got had to last me my husband and my 4 year old daughter a week. So so I went to the store cautiously picking up my food and slowly calculating things in my head, you’d really be surprised how quickly hot dogs eggs and ramen noodles can add up. But what made the trip so difficult was that it was Christmas and even ALDI had their fair share of toys and goodies on display for the kids to drive the parents crazy with. The problem was I had no money to satisfy my crying little girl. So I took my meager little purchase up to the counter and there was a woman in line in front of me who appeared to have nothing on the conveyor belt I was crying as my daughter was oogling a baby doll at the counter with her oohing and aawing and just being as cute as she possibly could be until she started crying when I told her she couldn’t have the doll. Then the woman behind the counter started ringing up our stuff and the woman in front of us was still standing there and then next thing I know she turned around and she handed my daughter that doll that she had already paid for and looked at me and said be happy and enjoy every blessing you have and I couldn’t help but burst into tears right there in the middle of ALDI, then just like that she was gone. She bought nothing for herself, it was as if she had stood in line just for us waiting for my daughter so she could give her that doll… So do I believe we entertain angels, having been touched by one I can certainly say we do And I’m so grateful for the experience.
