– Miss Sonya Massey, the aftermath and two years later, a city still unhealed –

“July 6th 2024.
Heatwave in Springfield Illinois.
Record high temperatures with no break in sight and new the mayor had canceled the 4th of July fireworks show.
The city was already hot.
My wife was in the hospital with a condition worsening rapidly and Doctors lying to us about why. We left the city of Springfield Illinois for an outside opinion to bring back to them later as diagnosis.
That is its own story to be told in full in time.
She arrived home to our house that day. It was just me, our goldfish Blinkie (who lived until a couple months ago) and started a year of being on a pick line IV drip. She was disoriented for a long time. She might not know until she reads this that it was the same day as the murder of Sonya Massey.
We lived less than one mile away from the crime.
Today (07.06.2026) is the two year anniversary of the murder of Miss Sonya Massey in Springfield Illinois by Sangamon County deputy Sean Grayson.
But what does every good pitchman say?
Wait! There’s more!
Two months later an 18yo kid would be gunned down while fleeing police in Springfield. He lived, but never will walk again.
A few days later an off duty Sargent named Michael Egan ran over two young people who were on a motorcycle while he was driving drunk but was not charged at the scene.
Angry citizens had to break the windows of the municipal building, get arrested demanding justice and have state legislators for dui and motorcycle safty organizations post their bail to have any results to happen.
He was eventually charged. He got 90 days in County jail + community service and some financial reparations to the victims. Thats all.
That summer after SonyaMassey was murdered for calling 911 for help, in total, more people went to the ICU and County Morgue, by way of law enforcement personnel, than any and all known local criminal organizations combined.
I gathered those stats myself.
I’m proud that I survived my past and the fireswamp where I learned to swim but im very glad to be safely away from Springfield Illinois now.
They didn’t change and never will.
They proved it in 1908″
