To me, my honest opinion, and this is just from me, but me is also someone who comes from a long line of alcoholics and someone who loves a good party and has had her fair share of trouble with local law enforcement after a night of binge drinking, addiction is physical and it’s a choice. You can kick it IF YOU WANT TO. You can NOT change being bi-polar, but it can be treated. You CAN kick an addiction… it fucking sucks, but it CAN be done.
How much responsibility do you put on a veteran for damage caused during a flashback compared to how much you should put on the driver of that car that killed those kids…? To me it lies in the choices you made either knowingly or unknowingly that lead to the tragedy that define level of accountability. There are accidents and irresponsible destructive choices.
Whatever form of therapy works best for you, USE IT!! AA, NA, Blogging, a trip to Baja or locking yourself in the spare room at your mother’s house for a week!! Just do it!! There is nothing wrong with asking for help, but there is with not asking because until you do, you will continue to victimize other people by your actions and by not standing up for yourself you choose to remain a victim.
Trust me, you don’t want to wake up one day at 40 something and realize you’ve been victimizing your friends and loved ones
